Turmeric
Turmeric is an ingredient essential in curry powders, and is what gives it its characteristic yellow color. In ancient
times, the highly expensive saffron stigma was used as a yellow dye for clothing. It was later discovered that turmeric
gave the clothing the same brilliant color and saffron was quickly placed aside for special culinary dishes.
Turmeric's flavor has a light, almost musky flavor, and is an ingredient in prepared mustards and pickling mixes.
